Handbuilt Electric Mountain Bike - 2012
This handmade electric mountain bicycle featured a custom mid drive.
Josh collaborated with our friend and electromechanical engineer, Ron Rocha, on a design for the best mid-drive motor they could create for this custom build. It was one of the first of its kind, completed and tested first on a prototype that Josh built as a conversion in mid 2011, well before the mid-drive motors were available as we know them today.
This sturdy hand-built TIG welded aircraft quality steel frame with an extended wheel base, 24 volt Lithium Ion Phosphate batteries and disc brakes, was well equipped with an additional battery pack to make history in 2012
As the first e-bike to join Colorado’s “Ride The Rockies” event in 2012, Josh rode the 5 mountain passes, over the five day event, completing 550 miles, feeling confident in his testing results of this system.
